This is a common misconception among many dog owners. Pregnancy is a physiological process in all mammals and does not change an animal’s health for the better. In nature, mammals conceive and give birth after every heat in order to preserve the species — something that cannot and need not be replicated in pets. A single litter does not improve your pet’s hormonal balance or health; to come close to natural conditions, a female dog or cat would need to give birth once or twice a year — and we doubt that is what you want.
